[Recent Changes] - Schedule - Attendees - FAQ - Volunteer - Web2.0Expo HomeWhat is the Web2Open?Web2Open is a free event where you can connect with other participants over your Web 2.0 successes, challenges and questions. As an unconference, the Open lets attendees determine most of the sessions, and it emphasizes participation over presentations. This year, the Open also features a handful of pre-scheduled discussion sessions seeded with people who are passionate about the topics. The Open is a great way to network with other attendees, learn more about elements of Web 2.0, and share your experience! The Web2Open, open to anyone who would like to participate, is a part of the Web 2.0 Expo. You need a badge to attend, but you can register for free on site using the code websf08opw (this free badge will admit you to the Web2Open sessions, Expo Keynotes, Show Floor and Launch Pad). What's the format?The Web2Open consists of three major elements: Open-grid SessionsPropose a topic you'd like to discuss. Show up. Lead a discussion. To offer an Open session, simply head to the 2nd floor of Moscone West the day you want to hold the session (either April 23 or 24) and point yourself at the whiteboard grid. Find an open space on the grid and fill in your topic. We'll have approximately 20 open slots, and it's first come, first served. Intros and sign-ups start at 9:00a on April 23 and 10:40a on April 24. Pre-scheduled RoundtablesJoin an open conversation with a panel of community members we've scheduled in advance. We're planning five of these sessions, and we'll post them to the schedule as we confirm them. Hybrid SessionsWe're picking three sessions in the main conference track that will be open to all Web2Open attendees. Then we're following those presentations with discussions in the Web2Open. Kudos to last year's organizers for getting the format started and working out a lot of kinks: The feedback from the Web2Open 2007. Note: We're not doing The Mashroom this year because it didn't get enough use last year. (I'd be interested in supporting some concrete expression of code this year if anyone has suggestions. Otherwise, it's probably just as valuable to have the discussions here lead to coding when you get home --Tony) Screen-capture I am finally going to make it to the big Web 2.0 Expo that is held annually in San Francisco, this year, March 31 - April 3. Yeah yeah, I know unix hosting, it's in my backyard, so what the deal Mr. Church-tech-geek? For one thing it ain't cheap to attend the entire conference and, well . . . I keep forgetting to go. After all, if you don't have to make plans for things like travel and hotel, 'tis very easy to overlook such a gathering until someone says, "Bruce, are you at Web 2.0 Expo?" and I say to myself, "Dang, missed it again!" But this year reseller hosting, I shall not miss out as a friend has helped get me connected with some folks and I am going to push my way into one of the open source sessions at the Web2Open portion of the event. This is a part where, for two days, it becomes an "unconference" where we arm-wrestle or something to be part of an onsite grid that determines where the interest lies. If people want gather to gab, voila, there is a session. And the best part, IT IS FREE just see the Web2Open website for colocation web hosting! I suspect there are many folks who are part of church communities that want to talk about the real power and possibilities of Web 2.0 technology and social media, so here is our chance. So, if you are going to be there and/or you have ever wanted to attend this uber-geeky, but undoubtedly connected event, hope you can make it.
