Here's what happened: London wikiwed 21 February 2007 - what happened
Rationale for the date:
I wanted to arrange one as soon as possible in 2007. The first Wednesday in February clashes with Lift07, the second is Valentine's day (which wouldn't be too popular - even wiki geeks have partners, wives, husbands), and so we decided on Wednesday 21st February.
Venue and logistics:
Goodman Jones have offered their premises for the evening, at 29-30 Fitzroy Square, in sight of the BT Tower, a short walk from Warren Street Tube. Click here for How to find them, or Google maps shows you where the are. GJ are a London based accounting practice, who recently won the Accountancy Age award for the best use of the Internet (practice).
We aim for people to arrive around 18:15 for a 19:00 formal start. We have GJ's main board room/meeting room. Watch here for more details.
Sponsorship opportunity:
With some help from Hugh Macleod, Stormhoek have kindly agreed to provide their excellent wine for the evening - thanks Jason Korman. Goodman Jones have also agreed to provide the food for the evening - thanks Philip Woodgate.
However, we will be looking for venues and sponsors for the next and subsequent events. Our friends at SocialText are talking to Microsoft to see if they can help out. Please contact David Terrar by mail or skype if you are interested.
Microsoft have kindly agreed to provide refreshments and the venue for the next one, probably to be on the first Wednesday in April - my thanks to Jim Lawn.
Meeting content:
We'd like every everyone who attends to do at least a 5 minute show and tell on how they are using wiki technology, but feel free to just come along and listen if you don't fancy presenting. Particular items we know will be covered:
- The Enterprise Irregulars use of the Blogtronix combined wiki, blog, document management, RSS and social networking platform
- GJ's use of the Internet
- Wiki and social networking experiences in the Enterprise e.g. BBC
- Wiki functionality in Microsoft SharePoint
- BT Workplace, the new collaboration platform aimed at SME/SMBs
Topics we'd like someone to come forward and present on:
- Suite Two (someone from SocialText is planning to attend, so hopefully they'll be able to say something on this)
- SocialText Unplugged - SocialText's off-line wiki (Jeremy has volunteered as they use his technology - great!)
- Any other Enterprise use cases
If there is something you'd like to see covered, add the topic here:
- Add more here
Meeting format:
Here is the format for Wednesday's session. One of the objectives is to agree the format and frequency for follow on meetings so that we can make this concept useful and a success. We'll also be trying to allow everybody time to present their project , have their say, share their knowledge.
| 6:15 | Reception - food, wine, and some relaxed chat and meeting people |
| 7:00 | Introductions and discuss future format - David Terrar (who will also be the moderator/MC during the evening) |
| 7:05 | 5 minute presentations + up to 5 minutes for subsequent questions, probably in the sequence of registration, we have at least a dozen people with something to say, so everyone will have to be "terse and to the point" (as my English Teacher used to say) |
| 9:00 | Discussion and more chat |
Facilities:
Hi David - Can you confirm whether we'll have internet connectivity and a projector for the demos? -- Cheers Jeremy Ruston
There will definitely be a projector and Internet connected PC available for any to use. I'll double check about connecting "other" PCs to GJ's network during today and post here when I have an answer. - DT
GJ's IT have just confirmed that any newtork capable PC/MAc with a standard socket will connect and get through to the Internet. Some of the team will be on hand to help people during the evening (Thanks Daren!) - DT.

Attendee (hopefully) / speaker (n) / listener (y) (Hi Nicole, except for unforeseen circumstances the date won't change now, too many people committed arriving from oversees. It's a great shame there is a clash. My friend Sig has been escorted to a geek girl dinner last year, so I'm really envious - David Terrar.) (Hi David, such a pity, fingers crossed for a recording! (n/a) Sarah Blow I wish I could attend, but unfortunately your event clashes with both Geek Dinners and London Girl Geek Dinners (see upcoming or TechVenue. With 80 people signed up and people coming over from Japan, Italy and Germany for this event, FOWA and Bar Camp London I can't move my event unfortunately. I've managed to make it to all the other Wiki Wed events in London (can someone record it for me so that I don't miss out?!) Maybe some time we could do a Wiki Wed London Girl Geek Dinner.... what do you think? It would be good to get Wiki Wed a bit more exposure! (Hi Sarah - it's a shame about the clash, but we should settle down to "first Wednesdays" after this one. Your idea of a combined event with the Geek Girl Dinner is an excellent one. Let's get in touch and see what we can arrange - David Terrar)
